OPTICAL ILLUSIONS FOR SAFETY

India isn't particularly safe when it comes to traffic, in fact it's the country with the most unsafe roads. The road signs we have in western Europe can be considered as luxury, but are actually necessary. In 2008 there were 118 thousand road deaths in India, against an average of 640 between 2006 and 2010 in The Netherlands. Even without notifying the median we can state that it is a significant difference.
Nitin Gadkari (India's minister of road transport and highways and shipping) came with the great idea to paint optical illusions that encourage drivers to slow down automatically.
This shows once again (referring to the Small Idea Big Outcome post) that small and simple ideas that are easy to implement can have a big influence. Besides, the visuals also make the roads look more colorful and friendly.
