FOLLOW YOUR GUTS, LITERALLY

Powerfoods, diets, healthy and clean eating. A jumble of information: what is true and what is false?

The perfect example in order to make this concrete is the recent events regarding Rens Kroes with her clay diet. Rens Kroes, powerfoodie with respectively 295k followers on Instagram told them how good a clay diet is to detox your body. WOW! I was quite flabbergasted by this: clay, for your inner body? HEALTHY?! Shortly after the clay post Koen Venema, from the University of Maastricht expressed his concerns and declared that a clay diet wouldn't be as healthy as Kroes claims. Venema negates the benefits of the clay that are mentioned and discourages to do this detox: it would be harmful rather than healthy.

Now this might be a bit overrated and people probably won't die because Rens motivated her followers to drink clay. However, it does indicate how powerful she is, and with her many other (famous) food bloggers. In this society where we all are super aware of our health, but too busy at the other hand to really pursue a healthy lifestyle. It is crazy to think that people don't really think for themselves anymore. We are all inspired by the suggestions and statements of people who found their jobs in food blogging. And of course, a lot of it will be healthy. But I am slightly worried that people won't listen to their own bodies anymore, that they blindly follow a diet without considering the effect on their bodies.

For instance all the fuss around bread. I don't know about you, but I really notice that my productivity decreases when I don't eat bread, bread gives me the energy (carbs, nothing wrong with carbs guys) I need to focus. When I eat bread I'm not getting hungry fast, in contrast to salads. Besides physical benefits, let's be honest: bread is easy and convenient. It takes minimum preparation time and it's a good source of your daily nutrition (this of course depends on your topping). But most of all: for me bread feels good. And I think that's mostly important here: to follow a food pattern and eating habits that feel good for you: not because some internet hype tells you to eat it because it's healthy. Follow your guts, literally!
