HOW WE WENT FROM BIG AND LUXURIOUS TO SMALL AND BASIC

From big, bigger, biggest, to small, smaller, smallest. At one side, we see that common reasons to fly off to a beautiful, tropical island in the whatever sea or ocean are to escape reality, to unwind and because the nature environment treats us well. But at the other hand we see that leisure is changing. To escape the daily grind holidays are more and more spend in urban environments. City trips are getting more popular and with motives as reduced prices, convenience, transport availabilities there is certainly something to be said for. But how do cities anticipate on all those tourist? With... capsules!

Right, we are changing our big luxurious hotelroom for a small capsule in the middle of a big city. In Japan, the first capsule hotel opened in 1979 already with the idea to minimize the sleeping area, but with the maximum comfort. And now there is the CityHub hotel in Amsterdam, a soon to be opened hotel anticipating on the future and the new ways of traveling, and not just by providing small sleeping units...

The CityHub anticipates on the megatrend Individualism where it is all about being recognized as an individual with personal needs, instead of being a part of the mass-market. This is very applicable in the leisure sector (why stand in line with hundreds of others to see the same exhibition?!). The CityHub hotel provides an Interactive Travel Guide app where the visitors are getting suggestions based on their personal needs, and can be brought in to contact with locals who can be your tour guide. And wouldn't it be a anticlimax, to spend the night in a standard hotel room - knowing there are hundreds of other people sleeping in the same sort of room - after a great day full of personalized activities? Yes, it would. But don't worry, because the sleepunits of the CityHub hotel can be personalized as well with mood lightning and music streaming system so you can end as you want to.

I think this is a great development in the leisure related industries. It's one of the biggest growing industries and yet there barely are hotels anticipating on the needs of their raison d'etre. So, a big yaye for the CityHub hotel!
