When fashion makes a difference

The past study year Social Enterprise has been mentioned more than once. Great, innovative companies who understand that there is more to gain than just profit: social benefit. For instance Granny's Finest, a fashion brand that brings young designer talent and old experienced crafters together. To fight solitude and not to pass away old acquaintance. And now I recently discovered Mode Met Een Missie (fashion with a mission), a fashion brand dedicated to humanity and the environment.

The people who are working here, are part of vulnerable groups in society and are suffering from psychiatric problems, mental limitations or addiction. Mode Met Een Missie offers these people a second chance by learning how to work in a realistic working environment to eventually create better chances on (re)-entry the job market and a less dependent life. They learn about the intricacies of needle work under the guidance of experienced and professional seamstresses. Mode Met Een Missie also contributes to a better planet by reducing waste: each garment/collection has old fabrics incorporated.

This once made me realize how important it is that everybody gets a second chance. Despite their situation: they can still be of great value to our society!
