Living small in a big world

One and a half week ago I have visited the Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven to descry some new and interesting concepts about living and surroundings. I went to the Graduation Show of the Dutch Design Academy where I saw Joey Dogge with his Yatno. This concept fits with my thoughts about the environment and efficiency and that's why I would like to share my point of view about the Yatno.

Before I continue I'd like you to read the following lines and take a look at the video to give you some more information about Yatno.

Yatno

Joey Dogge grew up in Indonesia and became friends with the family's gardener, Yatno. ''With just a hammer and chisel, Yatno made the most amazing thing,'' Joey remembers. As a designer, he remains inspired by Yatno's simple and smart approach, and created multifunctional and afforable furniture for tiny urban homes with as little as 5m2 of living space. Named after the gardener, this compatible series comes in two models. Yatno Satu offers storage space, a desk, couch, chair and a bed; while Yatno Dua provides a clothing rack, storage space and drawers that double up as stairs.

Now, why do I feel so connected with this concept? Because of its efficiency and its flexibility!

Well, I have to confess that the affection for efficiency derived because of the little bit neuroticism that runs in my family, I mostly want to achieve things faster in a stricktly orderd way. But besides that, I really get inspired by the way how efficiency can be used in several concepts. For instance the Cablean Sportveld where one sports court can function for various sport activities to save space. Aside from efficiency, I also appreciate the flexibility of the Yatno. It's a very compact, multifunctional, movable piece of furniture which gives me the idea of a portable house that I can take everywhere I want to. I love this idea because it makes me feel unrestricted to stay at one place!

And! Last but not least: the fact that the Yatno is very flexible and efficient offers a smart solution for the (still growing) overpopulated cities.

In a while a lot of people will live small in a big world!
